My tuk tuk driver from yesterday was pretty cool, and spoke enough broken English that it was pretty easy to communicate with him, so I hired him for the day to take me to Ankgor Wat. Seeing sunrise over the main iconic temple is a must-do, according to guide books and past visitors, so I was in the tuk tuk and on my way by 5am. Ouch :/
I follow the other early birds to the lake in front of the temple, in hopes to catch the sunrise and reflection. No such luck. It's overcast, so no colorful sunrise today. :(
Gorgeous, regardless though. ;)
I started at the main complex, and worked my way through the inner temple. It was really amazing. Just considering how a structure so large and intricate could have been built so long ago is mind boggling.
On the way to the next temple down the road, we stopped to visit with some monkeys who were looking for handouts.
The second temple of the day was Bayon. I absolutely loved this temple. The giant Buddha heads everywhere made you feel small, and like you were on a movie set, or something. Just surreal. If it looks familiar, one of the scenes from the Tomb Raider movie was filmed here.
The final temple is pretty recognizable. It too, was in Tomb Raider, as well as a few other movies.
I was beat after visiting the temples, so I got a long nap in, and then had some delicious Cambodian barbecue for dinner: shark, squid, crocodile, pork, beef and chicken.
Another fantastic day. Really in love with Cambodia. :)
