I got maybe an hour and 45 minutes of sleep in the hostel last night. We got back pretty late from walking around, and about 30 minutes later a group of 5 Korean girls checked in, kept the light on in the room, and proceeded to unpack their suitcases into the lockers, organize their shoes under beds, chat and giggle, until about 4 am. I had to be up and out on my way by 5:45... :/
But, I'm super excited for Indo, and won't be slowed down!!
My first flight was to Jakarta, Indonesia. As soon as I got off the plane and was making my way to customs, I realized I had made a poor choice in attire. It's extremely hot and humid, so of course I've been wearing all shorts and tank tops. Well, almost 90% of Indonesians are Muslim, and a woman showing the amount of skin I was, is asking for trouble. Let's just say it was an extremely uncomfortable stopover. I found a pillar in a corner near my gate and literally just hid behind it until it was time to board. What a rookie mistake on my part. I know better than that, having traveled to regions in the past where you need to be cognizant of clothing, the way you act, hand gestures, etc. I won't make that mistake again.
Another hour and a half flight from Jakarta, and I was on Bali. It was gorgeous coming in - the kite festival is going on here, so there are kites across the entire skyline, as far as you can see. May need to pick one up while I'm here. It's been years since I've flown a kite, and what better spot in the world than in Bali to try it again?!?
I found Randy at the international terminal, and we grabbed a cab to our hotel. He'll be joining me on this part of my trip, for the next 10 days. :)
Our hotel for the first night was along the coast outside of Denpasar in Canggu.
There was a rice paddy just outside, and a little bit of an ocean view.
We arrived too late to do anything but grab some dinner in the hotel, and head to bed, both exhausted from our flights.
Gorgeous!!!!
