Day 26 - Koh Tao

I missed the early ferry to Koh Tao this morning by only a few minutes. Oops. I probably should have taken a taxi instead of walking the 2 and a half miles. I'm getting used to the weight of my bag, and I kind of enjoy the workout it gives me walking up and down hills carrying it, I just need to leave a little earlier if I'm not 100% sure of my route next time. Lesson learned. I hung out at a little English pub I found, and had a couple lunchtime beers before heading beck to the dock for the afternoon ferry.

I was glad I chose not to eat the pub. The end of the dock was full of food carts, and my experience with them thus far has been great. It's so much cheaper than the already inexpensive restaurants, and you are watching your food being made so you have control over what's going in it, etc. The best meals I've had so far have been from carts, actually!

The ferry was an hour late. I realized why about halfway into the ride. Wow, were the seas rough as we started away from the island! It was rocking so hard from side to side, that the main deck would sway and be at the water level, and then it would rock the other way and do the same. It was a wild ride. :)

As soon as we pulled in to Koh Tao, I knew I loved it. It was mountainous, lush, and had all the little bars and restaurants stretched out along the beach. Many of the places I've visited so far, have had hotels or resorts taking up that space. I prefer to stay near or across the street from the beach, and have all the fun, chill places right along the beach. I don't normally spend that much time in my room, and like to be out and about, and it's just more fun set up this way! :)

This was my absolute favorite spot! The tables were all low to the ground and you sat on cushions. The music was great, and there were cats everywhere to keep solo diners company. :).

(I seriously had no less than 5 different cats visit me, lol)

Walked back to my place and pulled out my scuba book for review. It's been over a year since my last dive, so I signed up for a refresher class in the morning, and will have to do a brief test before I dive. Your certification never expires, but there are so many safety rules, hand signs, etc in diving, so it's good to brush up on that stuff. Looking forward to tomorrow!
