Day 38 - Bali's Southeast Coast

We left our surf paradise this morning, to head a little further up the coast to the town of Candidasa.
We're here during a cremation ceremonial period. During these times, the recently deceased are dug up from the ground and cremated together with others who have recently passed. When they are originally buried, no tears are said to be shed - the Balinese treat the dead as if they are sleeping. During the mass ceremony, the coffins are carried in a precession, but never in a straight line, so they can confuse the evil spirits. A very interesting series of rituals, indeed.
Our bungalow in Candidasa is nice, minus all the mosquitos! Thank goodness for mosquito nets!

We spent a rather chill day here, having a few beers looking out at the water, and watching a little tv in the room. It's a little exhausting traveling from one spot to the next daily, having to pack and unpack, figure out transportation, conversion rates, where you'll stay the following night, etc, so an afternoon of doing nothing is just what we needed.

Tomorrow, we're off to Bali's east coast, to the divers town of Tulamben.
